Asia Society Presents Exhibition Featuring the Vanishing Glaciers of the Himalaya: "NEW YORK, NY.- Asia Society showcases the work of photographer and mountaineer David Breashears who, with Glacier Research Imaging Project (GRIP), has retraced the steps of renowned mountain photographers of the past century to recapture images of the Himalayan mountains and glaciers from exactly the same vantage points. Rivers of Ice: Vanishing Glaciers of the Greater Himalaya comprises recent photographs by Breashears, shown alongside corresponding historic images, revealing the alarming loss in ice mass over the intervening years due to climate change.

Breashears has retraced the steps of the 1921 British Mount Everest Reconnaissance Expedition Team, using as a guide, the photos of surveyor and photographer Major Edward O. Wheeler and amateur photographer George L. Mallory, who would later perish attempting to reach Everest’s summit in 1924. Returning to the same vantage points, Breashears has meticulously recreated their shots, pixel for pixel.

Galleria dell'Arco Presents Xiong Wen Yun: "PALERMO, ITALY.- Galleria dell'Arco just opened Xiong Wen Yun's personal exhibition entitled Cai Hong ('Rainbow'). The Chinese artist, amongst the most celebrated and esteemed working on an international stage, will be presenting her work for the first time in Italy. For this her first showing, Xiong Wen Yun will exhibit at the Galleria dell'Arco a selection of photographic images. The artist will also install a site-specific project in the city.

The exhibition, curated by Paola Nicita, consists of approximately twenty large-format pictures that document and at the same time belong in a project that Xiong Wen Yun designed and realized in China between 1998 and 2001. The project 'Rainbow-Cai Hong' is organized as an articulated ensemble of outdoor performances, environmental installations, and production of photographs. The photographs that will be exhibited in Palermo are both an element of her larger project and a direct vehicle of the artistic values expressed by the artist. "
